The memory stayed with me as the yardstick against which I measured the men in my life. ![]() He was everything I wanted in a hero-honorable, tough, competent, generous, and he made my heart beat faster before I even knew why it was doing that. It was a case of imprinting, I think-like a duck. He was tall (to a five-year-old 5’9" is tall!), dark and handsome. It was, you will not be surprised to learn, with a cowboy. When I was five, I fell in love for the first time. ![]()
